Did You Know?: Jupiter Lighthouse and the Navy

The building that is the home of the ticket office, souvenir shop, and museum for Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was once the "married men's quarters" for the US Navy. It was constructed in 1939 and consisted of 6 "apartments" each with its own fireplace.

Once dubbed Sub Station "J" the site was used by the US Navy as a sounding station during WWII to identify and prevent German U-boats that were sinking US ships off the coast of Jupiter.
